Barclays Capital wins four Euromoney "Deals of the Year" awards
Four transactions where Barclays Capital played a role have been recognized in Euromoney's "Deals of the Year" award series. The magazine wrote the following about the winners:
High Grade Deal of the Year
Roche Eurobond and sterling issue: total €12.66 billion equivalent
“The transaction broke all previous records, becoming the largest-ever Eurobond financing, containing the biggest-ever single tranches of fixed-rate corporate bonds, denominated in Euros and sterling. When combined with the dollar issuance the previous week, it was the largest ever international debt capital markets fund-raising.”
Middle East Deal of the Year
State of Qatar: US$7 billion sovereign bond
“This was one of the largest order books ever raised by an emerging market issuer. Even more impressive was that this was achieved just two and a half days after the deal’s announcement, and with just two investor conference calls. In the end, the country had sold one of the largest ever bonds from an emerging-market issuer, indeed one of the largest ever sovereign Eurobonds anywhere.”
Structured Credit Deal of the Year
Lloyds Permanent Issuer: £3.9 billion 2009-1 UK RMBS
“[This] was the standout deal of the year in the structured finance market, not just for what it was but also for what it represented. The European securitization market vanished virtually overnight in mid-2007 along with the first signs of trouble in the asset-backed commercial paper market. …the market subsequently remained closed until Lloyds decided to test the water with this transaction.”
M&A Deal of the Year
Pfizer: US$68 billion acquisition of Wyeth
“The transaction was the largest M&A deal in the US last year. It was also was the third-largest pharmaceutical deal ever and the largest since 2000; the cash portion was the third largest in an acquisition in any industry and it was the third-largest acquisition globally across all industries in the past five years.”
